On my day of arrival i received a phone call informing me that they only take cash payment. As i was checking in about 2 hours later this was not expected or the usual practice for reputable establishments. i was met on the door step and handed over the cash,minus a short fall of £25 due to the last minute request. i then asked for a receipt. None was forthcoming even 3 days later when i checked out.i witnessed a foreign lady who was travelling with her sick mother and 2 young children try to pay their bill with a credit card get escorted to a local cash till before they could leave. the balance was left in the room for 2 days with no one coming near the room to collect it or empty the bins, make beds, etc.
the ensuite shower that i had paid extra for did not work.
no television to room.
the most serious fault i feel should be known is that this is a four story modern house with about 8 letting rooms, yet there is no fire alarm in the halls or stairwells, or the room on the top floor where i was staying. there used to be a single smoke detector on the ground floor but even that has been ripped off. Has this place got a fire certificate?

The house is clean and large. Also it's in a good location.

My friend and I were in London for a weekend. We had booked 2 nights at Ranston Guesthouse on the net.
The room, bed, sheets, toilets and bathroom were clean and we were very well welcomed. We'd go back there at any occasion without any hesitation.
